Dark Revelations

Third-Person Horror Action Game (2024)

Solo Developer | Designer | Programmer

Dark Revelations is a gritty third-person horror action-adventure set during a viral outbreak that transforms people into zombies. Players navigate a quarantined facility, uncover the truth behind the catastrophe, and survive brutal encounters through tactical dismemberment combat.

Developed solo over a 3-month period using Unreal Engine as part of SAE’s Interactive Digital Narratives unit — including 1 month of preproduction and 2 months of production — this project explored the powerful intersection of storytelling and game design. The unit emphasized narrative structures, character development, world-building, and the use of game mechanics as storytelling devices to create immersive player experiences. Dark Revelations embodies these principles by combining intense gameplay with a layered narrative, challenging players to piece together the story while surviving hostile environments.

As the sole developer, I handled all aspects of the project, focusing on integrating narrative elements with gameplay mechanics to enhance immersion and tension, as well as designing levels and implementing the combat system.

Motion Capture

As part of the project, I experimented with motion capture to create a more lifelike cutscene for a key in-game news broadcast. Using basic mocap tools, I captured and refined body movement data to animate the newscaster character, enhancing the realism and presentation of the scene. This process gave me hands-on experience with mocap integration and added cinematic depth to the game's storytelling.
